Teacher Sharing and Other Online Resources

Below is a chart listing what the teachers have been using (or were using) in their remote classes. This will help us connect with each other and to learn from each other (e.g. teachers who are using WhatsApp or Zoom). Please let me know if you want me to make changes to the information in the chart.

September 20th in Teacher Tech Training, Heidi Ainscow, Ellen Huls, Deanna Rafanelli, Shireen Miles, and Breshna Ghafari wanted to create or update a class website. It was a lot of fun and everyone created a class site! Ask them about it when you next see them. We look forward to our next Teacher Tech Training at Sunrise Tech Center on October 18 at 12:30-2:30.

WhatsApp

1. Downloading WhatsApp on your desktop computer makes your life easier. You can type your messages in the WhatsApp chat box using the computer keyboard.  (Thanks, Linda for sharing it with me.)
Important to remember when using the WhatsApp desktop:
1. Type your message(s) on a Word document first, then copy and paste it to the WhatsApp chat box. When you type directly in the WhatsApp chat box (desktop version) and press ‘Return’, this action will result in your message getting posted instead of going to the next line.

2. When you click on the small down arrow next to your WhatsApp post(s), you will see a list of students who have read/opened it.  (Thanks, Linda for sharing this tip with me.)

3. WhatsApp - Face-to-face video
Can only be used to meet with 3 people each time. Perfect for conversation classes. Please see Fran, who is using this.

Zoom.us  -----  Suggestions:
1. Record your zoom session then share the link with students who cannot join your meeting (schedule conflict). Lynn B suggested we try to render it on our computer instead of using Zoom rendering.
2. For security reasons, when scheduling a Zoom meeting, choose: password required.
3. Important Note: There’s an email message (SJ district policy) re: using Zoom with your students.

GoogleForms:
Jody and DeAnna shared their daily Check-in form using Google forms (the information is changed daily).

  1. Hi All from Dominika,

Thanks for hosting the meeting, Mary! That was great! I also want to thank all of you who attended the meeting. It was wonderful that we were be able to see each other and share what we've been doing in our remote classes. I learned so much from each of you. Hope we can continue helping each other and sharing what worked well (or not not so well) in our classes. I know how thankful your students are for all your efforts.

Attached is a chart listing what teachers have been using in their remote classes. Please let me know if you want me to make any changes. It was based on my notes from the meeting and from other communication with you. I'm also listing more useful resources that I hope will help us in our remote lessons.

Let me know if you are curious about one of those resources and want to learn more about it. I'll get a group of us going and we can learn about it together.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Stay well and healthy!

    Dominika
